CAFES AND MEALS CLOSE

TO THE TIMBER TRAIL

The Timber Trail Lodge and the Black Fern Lodge are the only places that offer all meal opportunities on the Timber Trail. If you choose a camping package, you'll be able to provide Epic Cycle Adventures or Pa Harakeke with your ice-chest of food.

It is best to buy all of your snack food before you come to the Timber Trail. If you have last minute stock-ups, you can buy in Benneydale where there is the Wooden Heart Cafe and a convenience store. The last place for snacks is at Pa Haraheke at Pureora.

Discover some amazing cuisine during your Timber Trail Journey with our accommodation providers

You'll find most of our accommodation providers can offer meal packages or meals by appointment.  Eating opportunities on the Timber Trail and around the immediate region are quite limited and you will need to get local advice on where to go for food and drink.

The Timber Trail Lodge offers full-catering services and also provide a full bar of alcoholic drinks and sodas as well as a range of snack foods for purchase. The Black Fern Lodge is the only other place on the Timber Trail that offers meals, cooked dinner, breakfast and packed lunch as part of the package. They also have ice-cold beers waiting for thirsty cyclists.

On the way to the Timber Trail or afterwards, there are some options for coffee and snacks:

  • Waimiha Cafe (run by local Maori family)
  • Benneydale Wooden Heart Cafe
  • Piopio Fat Pigeon Cafe (great for after the Timber Trail)
  • A range of cafe and other eating options in the township of Taumarunui before and after your Timber Trail experience
  • Convenience store with takeaway options in Benneydale
  • Stop in Whakamaru for cafe or takeaways

If you choose a camping option and stay at the Piropiro Campground, either Epic Cycle Adventures or Pa Haraheke provide full-camping packages including cookers so you will be able to cook your own food. Everything will be set up so that it is waiting for you upon arrival after cycling from Pureora to Piropiro; all you have to do is provide your ice-chest of food, your bedding and change of clothes.
